What would you do?

Michael Dorsey is a waiter at a restaurant, but he used to be an actor two years ago. He has not acted since two years ago. Michael Dorsey went to his agent after hearing some news. He wanted to prove to his agent that he can get the role somehow. His agent did not believe him what so ever. What Michael Dorsey did correct was that he did not let anything stop him from getting a role. He dressed up like a woman and he went to the audition. Right before he could fully audition the actor/director told him no, that he was not right for the part.  “…working for the same company for a lifetime are long gone and in some industries having one job for a significant period of time is frowned upon rather than considered an asset.” Michael did not take no for an answer and he stood up for himself. He did not fail to show his disguise, he stayed in costume the whole time. Later on he showed his agent how he got the role and that he was able to achieve his goal in getting the role. “As unattainable as a dream job might sound, with the right amount of forethought and preparation, you can make the move...” What he possibly did wrong was that, instead of telling his female friend, the one who really wanted the role also, he lied to her and did not tell her about him getting the role. Sometimes to achieve your dream job you might need to go above and beyond for something you really want. And that is something that Michael did. To get a big role he had to dress up like a woman and he was able to get the role. “...to conduct a self-exploration and identify possible careers that truly inspire.”

How has Fashion,Creativity and Design changed me

I love everything about fashion. The fact that I could not go to the school I wanted to, I had to choose The Art Institute of LasVegas. FIDM was my first priority but the expenses were a little more than i expected. When I heard that they had a fashion program that changed my whole perspective on this school. I was really hoping that this school at the time had fashion design because that was my whole set mind when it came to a fashion classes or main subject of fashion. When I realized that I was taking the management part of it, I actually was super happy because I was going to learn the management of managing my own company; breaking all things down to target markets to strategies to a successful business. I have learned so much just from coming to school, classes, and participating in fashion things. Fashion, creativity, and design have helped me as a whole and fashion student. Being here at AILV has taught me a lot about myself as a person and student. Fashion itself is why my degree will be outstanding because this school provides the best. According to the design book it states; aims to inspire and empower designers by helping them to develop their personal creativity and use it as a tool to achieve design goals. It also states that creativity is a tool available to anyone who understands its components and teaches students to identify and then seek out or avoid the personal and environmental factors that promote or inhibit their own creativity.

Evaluate the clips "How To Make It In America"

How To Make it in America revolves around the main characters Ben and Cam, who are trying to break into the New York City fashion industry. There is also the cousin Renee, who is a authentic businessman who is trying to make a name for himself with his Jamaican energy drink brand called “Rasta Monsta.” The show's main characters, Ben and Cam, struggle their way to make a name for themselves and want to "Make it in America" with their new up and coming clothing brand called “Crisp.” Constant barriers pop up along the eighth episode of the first season that make it worthwhile when Ben and Cam finally make some dough by making a few hundred t-shirts for a big clothing distributor named Haraki. The difference in How to Make It in America aside from other similar shows, is that the clothing industry is an intriguing front to delve into as a show and supporting characters like Ben rich's wall street friend from high school and Domingo who is played by Kid Cudi. I liked the episodes I watched, and I was able to learn from them. The basis throughout the episodes involved two working class guys who were struggling to clearly make a living for themselves. Ben, had a job at Barneys but he aspired toward a more fulfilling career in designing. Cameron is just an outgoing guy, but he was very much undisciplined, he was Ben’s best friend who has a love for hustling. When the pair decided to start their own line of jeans, the series really starts to take off and they go through a lot. As they went through several obstacles they were able to learn along the way that the industry for getting their brand out there is not as easy as they may have thought it would be.

How to make it America

What’s your superpower? What do you do better than anyone else?

Answer: Ben and Cam’s super power was to have ambition about what they were trying to sell/make as their own product or brand for their jeans. What they do better than anyone is go out and keep trying no matter the outcome was. They always took their ambition to the next level making things work to get their jeans out there on the market.

What do people frequently compliments you on or praise you for?

Answer: What others frequently compliment or praise when it comes to ben and Cam they got compliments on how they never gave up and anyone they went to see what can be done to get there jean line started always either came with something good for them or something bad.

What adjectives do people consistently use to describe youperhaps when they’re introducing you to others?

Answer: When it comes to the best friends Cam and Ben some people may have seen them as a little show ad unorganized because they didn't bring anything to the manufacturing company to even get things started, but that was in the begging of the show. As time progress they got better. Some may classify them as very ambitious because they never gave up and they always came up with plans or some “off the wall” just to make their “under construction line started”.

What energizes or ignites you? What are your true passions?

Answer: What energizes or ignites they boys are the fact that they know with a little more help; guides, they can make their jean collection legit and even worth being on the market for people to buy. Ben and Cam's true passion is jeans (their brand to be). I know they will be a success.

Advertising for LinkedIn

Using LinkedIn when it comes to marketing and advertising is a very good aspect to promote who you are and what you do in the professional business. Me personally I love this social media option and glad it has come into the marketing industry because it is like a digital resume. LinkedIn is not just some ordinary social media website because it is for professional people trying to get “LinkedIn” with other business people. Someone who is into arts for example music, graphic designing, or even designing would use LinkedIn to promote his or hers talent. Just like any social media website, they are not always safe but the person can control what goes on within their social media lines. LinkedIn is very professional therefore, only business people add you, but the problem with that is you do not know who is adding you. In class my FRM teacher Frank Pinto says, “One day I asked a guy that goes to AILV did he have a business card and he said yes but he asked for his LinkedIn.” I had wondered why he said that or why he said, “I do not add students unless they are graduates.” According to LinkedIn their LinkedIn Advertising Plan Outline is:

*       A LinkedIn account to use LinkedIn advertising. While you don’t need a completed profile or company page if you are linking to your website in your ad, having both are good for your overall online presence.

*       A definition of your ideal customer for ad targeting purposes.

*       A landing page customized for the product or service you are advertising targeted to your ideal customer.

*       An idea of how you want your ad to look by researching other ads on LinkedIn.

*       Strong headlines, descriptions, and images for your LinkedIn ad variations.

*       Time to review your ad variations to only use the ones with the best conversion rates.

*       Time to measure your results to determine if LinkedIn ads are right for your business.

Tim Horton's Coffee

Tim Hortons serves coffee. Their signature flavor is served with their premium blend that is created by using a blend of 100 % Arabica beans. Their coffee is served and brewed freshly every day. After Tim Horton's success throughout his hockey career, he decided to start a coffee and doughnut business. "The chain's focus on top quality, always fresh product, value, great service and community leadership has allowed it to grow into the largest quick service restaurant chain in Canada specializing in always fresh coffee, baked goods and home-style lunches." The first two products that were served at Tim Hortons were coffee and donuts. The two most popular donuts at Tim Hortons are still very well liked and very popular today. "The selection of donuts to enjoy was highlighted by two original Tim Hortons creations, the Apple Fritter and the Dutchie." One of the biggest changes in the company's products was the bite sized doughnuts. The bite sized doughnuts can now be found in over 35 different types of varieties in the world today. The very well-liked coffee from Tim Hortons is now available outside of its restaurants. The special blend is also available in cans, and so are Tim Hortons hot chocolate and English Toffee and French Vanilla cappuccinos, so that its consumers can also enjoy these great tasting products at home. Along with the regular Tim Horton restaurants, Tim Hortons locations can also be found in shopping malls, outlets of highways, universities and hospitals, in order to provide prominent visibility for the chain.  ”Most standard Tim Hortons locations offer 24-hour drive-thru service, catering to consumers on the go.”

Ferguson & Marketing

Tensions have flared since Tuesday afternoon when a St. Louis police officer fatally shot a 23-year-old black man wielding a knife who was acting "erratically", a few miles from the street where Brown was shot. The confluence of events has triggered racial tensions smoldering in the mostly black community. "The Ferguson police officer who shot Michael Brown didn’t stop him because he was suspected in a recent robbery, but because he was walking down the middle of the street blocking traffic." In today’s society people will come up with whatever they can, with any excuse they can think of on the top of their mind. The media is saying that “robbery does not relate to the initial contact between the officer and Michael Brown. “ But others are saying otherwise the other way around. Ferguson police released a surveillance video of the robbery but the video does not typically have anything to do with the shooting of Brown, since the media is saying that the robbery does not relate to the contact bet” because the press asked for it.” The additional information that was released added more intrigue to a case that has brought about protests in Ferguson among people who are angry at the shooting of the 18 year old Brown, and what they may know as a heavy handed response by police afterward. “The documents claim Brown roughly handled a clerk trying to stop him before walking out of the store with the box of Swisher Sweets.” The media claims that showing a surveillance video as proof of that, may have been a way to cover up and to help protect the officer. “Brown being a suspect should not have led to the use of deadly force.” Brown was not guilty of anything, therefor it should not have led to shooting.

Networking In The United States

In this episode, the guys go pick up their denim jeans that they designed. Their denim jeans did not come out how they wanted them to come out, with no time to spare they decided to go show what they had to see if maybe they might have gotten any success out of what they have. They went to go show their denim jeans to a fashion designer, fashion buyer who is from out of the state and only comes a certain time of the year. Make as many contacts as you can with people in all types of businesses and industries related to your chosen career field.” they were waiting to speak with the designer they were also talking to some of the people waiting in the lobby but they were not necessarily talking about their own garment that they have designed. The other people out in the lobby weren’t afraid to have their garments shown; they also had more than one item of apparel to show to the designer. The guys did not have a business card but they did introduce themselves to the designer.  “Networking brings in a lot of new faces and connections.” I feel like even though they only had one denim pair of jeans they should have somehow thought of having a spare of what their jeans were originally supposed to look like instead of how they came out. In the end, the fashion buyer from out of town ended up liking one of the guys t-shirts that he was currently wearing. I think that they both should have thoroughly thought out if it would even be possible to come up with several more shirts that looked just like the one that one of the guys was wearing because it was an old shirt that he had made way back when he was in high school.Networking is the use of contacts to acquire information, advice, and referrals for the job hunt.”

McDonald's Coffee Too Hot

Liebeck vs. McDonald's Restaurants also known as the McDonald's coffee case and the hot coffee lawsuit. A 79-year-old woman suffered third-degree burns when she accidentally spilled hot coffee in her lap right after purchasing her coffee from a McDonald's restaurant. Liebeck was hospitalized for eight days while she underwent skin grafting, followed by two years of medical treatment. She sued McDonald’s and a jury awarded her nearly $3 million in punitive damages for the burns she suffered. The reaction from people was: “Isn’t coffee supposed to be hot?” And “McDonald’s didn’t pour the coffee on her, she spilled it on herself!” She was driving the car and wasn’t paying attention. What really had happened was that Liebeck was not currently driving when her coffee spilled onto her lap, and the car was currently not moving.  She was actually the passenger in a car that was stopped in the parking lot of the McDonald’s where she bought the coffee. She currently had the cup between her knees while removing the lid on the cup to add cream and sugar, that caused the cup to tip over and spilling the entire cup of coffee on her lap. The coffee was not just hot, it was dangerously hot. McDonald’s corporate policy was to serve it at a temperature that could cause serious burns in seconds. “McDonald’s operations manual required the franchisee to hold its coffee at 180 to 190 degrees Fahrenheit.” She was wearing sweatpants that had absorbed the coffee and kept it against her skin. She suffered serious third-degree burns and required skin grafts on her inner thighs and elsewhere. Liebeck had offered to settle the case for $20,000 to cover her medical expenses and any lost income, But McDonald’s did not offer more than $800 making the case go to trial. The jury found Liebeck to be partially at fault for her injuries, reducing the compensation for her injuries accordingly. The original punitive damage award was reduced by more than 80 percent by the judge. Liebeck and McDonald’s later reached a confidential settlement. “McDonald’s admitted it had known about the risk of serious burns from its scalding hot coffee for more than 10 years. The risk had repeatedly been brought to its attention through numerous other claims and suits.”

More in America

EOC Week 2
In this episode of How to make it in America the guys meet are introduced to a big designer. All they wanted was a minute with the designer. They thought they would have a big opportunity to get their denim line CRISP started. I think that they did the correct thing which was getting the designer’s attention and then making a good impression. That’s what got them an invite to the office of the designer and that can sometimes be impossible. Once they got to the office they found out that the designer is out of town but the head person of the denim line is there to speak to them instead. I think this is where they went wrong, they were definitely not prepared for what to expect. They did not have a plan or financial plan but they were still confident. All they wanted was the information on where they could possibly find a good manufacturer but I still believe that they were not able to succeed because they just were not prepared. As far as I could tell they only really had a name for their line and nothing else.

How to Make it in America

From watching this episode I learned that sometimes it isn’t hard to try new and different things in order to solve your solution and to succeed. In the first episode of “How to Make It in America”, the guys first had a skateboard business but as soon as something happened they weren’t able to make money off of the skateboards. After that they need to find a new solution in order to make money. One of the guys thought about selling leather jackets, but that plan does not go so well due to the fact that one of the cousins returns from jail and there is money owed to him. The guys later on meet an old friend from high school and he is able to help repay their loan and they are back on track to making money. So sometimes you need to try several options in order to find the right one to your solution. “Brand structure and brand management have helped build businesses, market products and services, and manage reputation. Behind the brand is careful business management controlling the way the brand expresses itself.” (Davis 22) . In this episode the guys bought leather jackets that were supposed to be Marc Jacob brand, but the name was spelt wrong, instead of Marc with a C at the end it was Mark with a K at the end. That made a big difference because if people really know their brands they would of spotted that the first time and would have known the leather isn’t really from the brand Marc Jacob. If the name was perhaps spelt correctly then they could have maybe made good profit off of the leather jackets.
